Alexandra Kaiss
JD, University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law
Alexandra Kaiss is an incoming J.D. candidate at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, having previously spent three years at Cassidy Levy Kent supporting trade remedies, customs, and policy practices. Selected as one of seven World Trade Organization Young Trade Leaders worldwide and the first American participant, she worked with the WTO Secretariat to elevate young perspectives in multilateral trade discussions, culminating in the co-authorship of a global consultation and report on WTO reform and the future of the multilateral trading system. Alexandra also serves on the Albrecht Fellowship Advisory Board at Baltimore's World Trade Center Institute and is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Shapers Washington, D.C. Hub, where she helps advance initiatives that prepare the next generation of international business and policy leaders.
How will the NCITD Scholarship help support you in your studies/prepare for your career?
After spending three years in private practice and working closely with government agencies on international trade matters, I became interested in understanding policymaking and decision-making from the government perspective. The generous NCITD Scholarship will help make a government internship financially feasible, allowing me to gain firsthand experience inside the institutions that shape trade policy and enforce U.S. trade laws.
Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
In five to ten years, I hope to be contributing to the enforcement of U.S. trade laws and the advancement of U.S. trade policy, whether at the International Trade Commission, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, the Department of Commerce, or the Court of International Trade, or by returning to private practice to advise clients on trade remedies and policy matters.
